Bike Week LA


Celebrate Bike Week LA 2011 from May 16 – 20.  For the 17th straight year, Metro will be partnering with community organizations to celebrate all things bike. Several events are planned throughout the region, including Bike to Work Day on Thursday, May 19. You can access downloadable posters in Spanish / English
 
Pledge to ride on Bike to Work Day. Not only do you automatically get entered in a drawing for some cool prizes, you show that bicyclists count.

Using your bike ride is now easier because you can take your bike on Metro Rail – anytime! For complete bike rules please see Bikes on Rail.

Free Rides: Many public transportation providers will be offering free rides to cyclists who board with their bikes and/or helmets on May 19. Check Partners and Sponsors for more information.

Monday, May 16 - Kick-off event at North Hollywood Station at 8:30 am
Tuesday, May 17 - Blessing of the Bicycles at the Good Samaritan Hospital - begins at 8 am.

Wednesday, May 18 - Downtown LA Bike Ride. Meet at Union Station on Alameda Street and ride through Downtown with other bike enthusiasts. Congregate at 8:00 am and the ride will leave at 8:30. Route map.
Thursday, May 19 - Bike to Work Day. Visit pit stops from 6 to 9 am, take free rides on transit. Click for a map of event locations.
Friday, May 20 - Bike to School Day – Support your local school!

Fostering Resiliency: Mitigating the Impact of Homelessness on Children

One in 50 American children experience homelessness each year. Homelessness has a devastating impact on children’s health, development, academic achievement, and overall well-being. However, with support, children can grow and thrive amidst adversity. Sign up for a free SAMHSA HRC webcast to learn how homeless service providers can foster resiliency in children experiencing homelessness. Presenter Katie Volk will discuss how children fall into homelessness, the challenges they face, and how fostering resiliency can improve their chances of succeeding.

Who Should Attend
Direct service providers, outreach workers, case managers, peer support specialists, project directors, supervisors, and team leaders can all benefit from this webcast.
